Edinburgh

Edinburgh, hilly capital of Scotland situated on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth. It is also known as the hilly capital city of Scotland. The Scottish Parliament governing Scotland is also located in the Holyrood area of the city. The city is second largest financial and administrative centre and seventh most populous city in Britain with a population of around 1,339,380 recorded in the year 2014. The development of International Conference Centre and Technology Park enabled to make the city as the largest financial centre of the country.  During the 17th century, Victorian buildings replaced the old houses to accommodate a fastest growing population of the town. The city was voted as most densely populated and overcrowded city of the Europe.  Religion in Edinburgh includes communities of Christians, Ahmadiyya Muslims, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh, and Buddhist. The city has total 83 congregations and active inter faith association.

The economy of the city is largely based on engineering works, financial services and tourism industry. The city faced little industrialisation and slow economic growth as compared to other cities of the England during the two world wars. Over the centuries, the city has grown itself in the field of education particularly in information technology, medicine, engineering and law. The University of Edinburgh played an important role in becoming the city as a major intellectual centre and ranked 17th and 21st in the QS World University rankings in 2014 and 2015 respectively.  The city has the highest number of professionals and the most competitive city in the United Kingdom.

Tourism

The city is a famous tourist destination for its unique culture and historical sites and attracts more than one million foreign visitors every year. The medieval layout of streets, Dean Village, planned Georgian town and Calton Hill areas are awarded as World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995. The city hosts Edinburgh International Festival, Festival Fringe, Film Festivals Comedy Festival and International Book Festivals every year.
